RD Real Talk - Registered Dietitians Keeping it Real

Dec 1, 2017

Alissa Rumsey—now known for her work in freelance writing, private practice, and as an experienced spokesperson for the Academy—started, and loved, her career in clinical nutrition. During her clinical work, she also started writing, side-hustling, and at the suggestion of her boss (and mentor), applied to become a spokesperson. If you work somewhere for more than a few years, you learn a lot, develop key relationships, and may have an incredible mentor who helps push you in new directions. She may convince you that clinical is the right place to start. (You do you!)

Transition to business and life things:

  • One key question: How and when do you pay YOURSELF? (We're still not entirely sure.)
  • How we plan for big things and look ahead
  • Taking time OFF (fully, 100% off)
  • Master's Degree or no? (Check out Scholly app!)
  • What it takes to be a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics (and why dietitians should consider it)
  • ...and...WTH is an Instagram pod?

Resounding theme: FIND YOUR PEOPLE.
